How to disable the home button - Guided Access (iOS)
When you leave your child alone with the device, you might want to disable home button to prevent him/her to leave the app and mess with the other apps on the device and/or settings, mails, etc. As developers we do not have an ability to do that, but there is a setting to lock the device to a single app and disable access to other apps in IOS 6. Please know that these same instruction can be applied on all iOS 6+ devices.
- From the home screen of your device, find and open the Settings Folder.
- Then swipe up to find and open the General settings.
- Swipe up again, to find and open the Accessibility section.
- Swipe up once more, to find and enable right under-Learning. The Guided Access option of iOS 6.
- Once Guided Access has been turned on. You will be taken to the next-menu page to set up a 4-digit password and a toggle switch to enable Screen Sleep.
- Now go back to your home screen and open any app. To enable Guided Access within the app, quickly tab the home button 3 times.
- At the bottom of the screen there’s now an option to turn On/Off Touch or Motion. (By default touch is turned on, draw around any area on the screen you would like to disable.) (Turning Touch off will disabled the entire screen.)
- Once you’re done, select start at the top right hand of the screen to return to your app.
- That’s it! You have now successfully disable the home button, by enabling Guided Access on your iPad.
